Protecting New England’s National Forests Virtual Town Hall

New Hampshire Audubon is collaborating with the National Wildlife Federation and fellow NWF affiliates, the Natural Resources Council of Maine and Vermont Natural Resources Council, to sponsor a virtual town hall that will provide participants with an opportunity to submit comments regarding the proposed recission of the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule. This action would open the buffer areas adjacent to New England’s wilderness areas and some additional large, intact forests to logging and motorized recreation.

At the beginning of the meeting, participants will hear from conservation leaders from Natural Resources Council of Maine, New Hampshire Audubon, and Vermont Natural Resources Council about how wildlife, clean water, and rural economies will be impacted by revoking this important rule. Following those brief remarks, you will be able to make your own comment about why these intact forest landscape protections should remain in place. Your comments will be submitted to the U.S. Forest Service along with the official statements from our organizations once the public comment period opens (expected any day).

Please join us at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow evening, Wednesday, May 20, to make your voice heard by registering at https://www.mobilize.us/nationalwildlifefederationactionfund/event/951102/.

There will also be an opportunity to submit personal comments directly once the public comment period opens.
