Kids learn a lot through exploration, taking risks, and creative expression – whether it be hiking a trail or making their own YouTube video. NH Audubon recently launched a collaboration with Media Power Youth (MPY), whose filmmaking experiences encourage kids to experiment, investigate topics of interest, and form their own opinions. Interacting with nature and technology are activities that can be enjoyed at the same time and help kids feel more connected to the world around them. These activities can also inspire them to give back to the environment they love in big and small ways as they grow up. Getting kids involved in speaking up for their environment, whether it be a trail clean-up or creating an online video tutorial on how to make a birdhouse, introduces children to what it means to care for your community.
During our Conservation Quest camp, the next generation of environmental leaders share stories about New Hampshire’s outdoor spaces and local animals by creating their very own short films! Campers enjoy the freedom to run, shout, play, and create outside with their peers. As they collaborate on their environmental project, they will strengthen their relationship with nature and develop the skills and confidence they need to become great leaders. By helping kids get curious about the world and guiding them to experiment with technology in safe and healthy ways, we empower youth to use media for good and to make a positive difference.
Join us at Conservation Quest camp this summer for a week (or two) of filmmaking fun while spending time in the great outdoors! This year we are offering sessions at both the McLane Center in Concord and the Massabesic Center in Auburn. Young filmmakers will also have the opportunity to present their creations to the community at MPY’s end of summer film festival. Registration is now open.
