Our Peeps: Jake Caires

Welcome to NH Audubon’s new Conservation Lands Steward, Jake Caires!

Jake is a budding naturalist, born and raised in southern New Hampshire. Throughout his life, his curiosity has gleaned ecological insights as a local gardener, hiker, and kayaker. Additionally, he is a student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental science at SNHU.

During his volunteer hours, you may find him feeding turtles and frogs or buzzing around the McLane Center Pollinator Garden. His work as a Lands Steward first began as a volunteer with the Friends of Ponemah Bog. Now Jake begins his stewardship role across all NH Audubon
lands. Like a beaver, he clears trails by chopping branches and blowdowns into mulch; his goals are to conserve threatened habitats, connect with our beloved volunteers, and share the outdoors so others may help preserve New Hampshire wilds for all.

If you see him, geek out with Jake about these things: sundews and carnivorous plants, wildfire adapted ecosystems, and prehistoric mammals. He may even offer you a plant!
