It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished ambassador Bald Eagle. He was 36 years old and had been a vital part of our conservation and education programs for 25 years.
The Bald Eagle came to NH Audubon from the Adirondack Park Agency in 1999. He had been found with an injured left wing in upstate New York and unfortunately had to have his wing amputated at the elbow. He had a metal band on his left leg that identified him as a nestling from Ontario, Canada in 1988. Despite his challenges, he thrived in our care and became a symbol of resilience and strength.
Throughout his time with us, the Bald Eagle played a pivotal role in our educational outreach. He captivated the hearts of thousands of visitors, young and old alike, teaching them about the importance of wildlife conservation and the majestic nature of raptors. His presence at numerous events and programs over the years helped foster a deeper appreciation for these magnificent birds and the need to protect their natural habitats.
His legacy extends far beyond the walls of our mews here at the McLane Center. He inspired countless individuals, including our staff and volunteers, to take action in support of wildlife conservation. His story will continue to motivate future generations. We are profoundly grateful for the time we had with him and for the opportunity to share his remarkable story.
As we mourn the loss of our Bald Eagle at NH Audubon, we also celebrate the incredible impact he had on our community and beyond. He will forever remain in our hearts as a beacon of hope and an enduring reminder of the power of conservation.
