Amphibian Week celebrates frogs, toads, and salamanders and the important role they play in New Hampshire’s ecosystems.
New Hampshire is home to many native amphibians, including the Wood Frog, American Toad, American Bullfrog, Spotted Salamander, and Eastern Red-backed Salamander.

These amazing animals help control insect populations by eating mosquitoes and other bugs, while also serving as an important food source for birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals.
Amphibians are important indicator species because their sensitive skin reacts quickly to pollution and environmental changes. Healthy amphibian populations can help show that New Hampshire’s wetlands, forests, and waterways are healthy and thriving.
This Amphibian Week, explore New Hampshire’s ponds, wetlands, forests, and trails to discover the hidden world of amphibians all around us.
