This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 11, 2025.
There was an unconfirmed report of a SWALLOW-TAILED KITE seen at Highland Lake in Andover on August 10th.
2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen at Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, on August 10th.
A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment on August 8th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-2:00 on weekdays only. If you visit, please park in a designated spot at the main building and be out of the plant by 1:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
There was an unconfirmed report of an ARCTIC TERN from the Piscataqua River near Prescott Park in Portsmouth on August 4th.
A juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen along Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on August 4th, and a juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at Fields Grove City Park in Nashua on August 10th.
A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on August 8th, 2nd, 2 were seen at Parson’s Creek Salt Marsh in Rye on August 10th, and 1 was seen in Hampton Marsh on August 5th.
A SNOWY EGRET was seen at Stark Landing on the Merrimack River in Manchester on August 5th, and 1 was seen at Mine Falls Park in Nashua on August 7th.

A GREEN HERON was seen at Fort Hill Wildlife Management Area in Stratford on August 5th and 6th. Uncommon this far north.
Single BLACK VULTURES were reported from Keene, Madbury, Hooksett, and Durham during the past week.
2 ORCHARD ORIOLES were seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on August 8th.
14 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at the Coppal House Farm in Lee on August 5th, and 4 were seen along Weston Road in Belmont on the 4th.
