New Connections

New Hampshire Audubon was recently invited to collaborate with the new University of New Hampshire Birders Club on a bird watching excursion at Great Bay Sanctuary. With binoculars in hand, about 15 students and professors alongside the Massabesic Center’s Education Coordinator, Slater Roosa, embarked through the fields, forests, and along the bay to view the wide variety of birds who call Great Bay their home. It was an excellent opportunity for new birders to learn some basics, while the more experienced birders had the space to share their own tips and tricks with the group. By the end of our two hour walk, participants identified almost 30 species including Killdeer, Osprey, Double-Crested Cormorants, and Pileated Woodpecker. New Hampshire Audubon hopes to continue this partnership, and others like it, to further increase curiosity of the natural world for students of all ages and backgrounds. If you are interested in joining a NH Audubon birding walk, please visit our Events Calendar or reach out to Slater Roosa for more information.
