Bird Lovers, Mark Your Calendars!

Bird Lovers, Mark Your Calendars!

NH Audubon’s 38th annual Backyard Winter Bird Survey is happening this weekend on February 8 and 9, 2025. This exciting statewide science project invites you to observe and report the birds visiting your backyard, helping us track winter bird populations and trends across New Hampshire.

How Does It Work? It’s easy and fun. Whether you spend 15 minutes or several hours, your observations make a difference!

  • Watch your backyard birds for as long as you’d like during the survey weekend.
  • Record the species you see.
  • Submit your findings using our easy online survey form.

Why Participate? Last year, over 1,500 participants helped document exciting discoveries like the first-ever Yellow-throated Warbler recorded on the survey and record counts of Turkey Vultures and Pine Warblers. Over 35 years of data show remarkable trends, such as increasing numbers of Eastern Bluebirds, American Robins, and Red-breasted Woodpeckers.

Your observations add to over 35 years of data, revealing how species are adapting to challenges like habitat loss and climate change. You can read last year’s full survey results on our webpage.

New to the Survey? Watch our recorded webinar to learn how to participate, identify common winter birds, and submit your findings with confidence.

Thank you for helping NH Audubon track and protect New Hampshire’s winter birds. We can’t wait to hear about your feathered visitors!
