New Pocket Pollinator Garden to be Planted in Manchester

New Pocket Pollinator Garden to be Planted in Manchester

(by Willa Coroka)

September 23-26

NH Audubon’s fourth Pocket Pollinator Garden is set for installation at Bakersville Elementary. Joining three other sites located in Manchester (Beech Street Elementary, the Manchester City Library, and Mill 3), these pocket pollinator gardens act as corridors for nectar and pollen-seeking insects. Each garden has been specially designed to attract our pollinator pals and provide them with varied food sources to nourish them through their active season. From metallic sweat bees that sparkle like emeralds to sphinx moths with see-through wings, our current gardens are buzzing with action, and we are “beeyond” excited to add another stop on their map of downtown eats!

The students at Bakersville will assist with the actual installation of the native plants chosen for their school, but we need your help prepping the site. Sod needs removing, soil needs amending, and the finishing task will be spreading a layer of mulch to see them safely through the winter. For anyone interested in volunteering their time and lending a hand while learning about the relationship between pollinators and our global and local community, dates have been set for September 23-26 with onsite action occurring between 9am-1pm.

Please email Willa Coroka for more information or sign up to volunteer.
