This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, July 21, 2025.

A SANDHILL CRANE was seen flying overhead at Pinehurst Road in Holderness on July 15th, and 2 were seen flying overhead in Conway on the 14th.

A BRIDLED TERN was seen at the Isles of Shoals, on June 13th and again on the 18th, and was last reported on July 7th.

A first-summer plumaged BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen at North Hampton State Beach on July 14th.

An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen at Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, on July 19th.

A STILT SANDPIPER was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on July 18th.

A SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was seen at Tullando Farm in Orford on July 20th.

A LEAST BITTERN was seen at World End Pond in Salem on July 20th.

A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen at Fields Grove City Park in Nashua on July 17th and 20th. Uncommon away from the coast.

A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on July 19th.

There was an unconfirmed report of a male SUMMER TANAGER seen at a private residence in Hillsborough on July 15th.

A WILLOW FLYCATCHER was seen at the Upper Coos Recreational Trail in Colebrook on July 15th. Uncommon this far north.

4 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from Brownfield Road in Eaton on July 19th, 1 was seen at the Lake Sunapee Country Club on the 20th, and 1was reported from Deer Path Road in New London on the 20th.

4 PURPLE MARTINS were seen at Fort Stark in New Castle, and there was an unconfirmed report of 2 PURPLE MARTINS from Groveton, all on July 19th.

14 CLIFF SWALLOWS were seen at Washington Street in Dover on July 18th. Species in decline.

There was an unconfirmed “heard-only” report of a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER from 67 Tibbetts Road in Tuftonboro on July 9th.
