This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 26, 2024.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen at a private residence in Gilford on August 18th, and was seen again on the 20th, but has not been reported again.

4 CASPIAN TERNS were seen at the Isles of Shoals on August 26th.

A FORSTER’S TERN, a LAUGHING GULL, a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, and a BONAPARTE’S GULL were seen at Moore Reservoir in Littleton on several days during the past week.

2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on August 20th.

8 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen at the Isles of Shoals on August 25th.

A DUNLIN was seen at North Hampton State Beach on August 20th.

A POMARINE JAEGER was seen at Jeffrey’s Ledge on August 24th.

2 juvenile YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen at Seabrook Back Dunes along Route 1A on August 24th.

A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen at Witch Island in Hampton, 1 was seen at Henry’s Pool in Hampton, 1 was seen at Goss Farm in Rye, 1 was seen in pools south of Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, 1 was seen at World End Pond in Salem, and 1 was seen at Scruton Pond Farm in Barrington, all on several days during the past week.

4 SNOWY EGRETS were seen at Adam’s Point in Durham on the August 24th.

3 BLACK VULTURES were seen in Pelham on August 22nd.

A RING-NECKED DUCK was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on August 23rd, and 1 was seen at Lake Massabesic on the 20th. A GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen in Goose Pond in Canaan on the 21st.

A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was reported from Potter Road in Conway on August 22nd.

An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen at the Lubberland Creek Preserve in Newmarket on August 24th.

An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on August 22nd.

2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS were seen at Beryl Mountain in Acworth on August 24th.

3 BANK SWALLOWS were seen in Hancock during the past week.

COMMON NIGHTHAWK migration has begun and high-counts for the past week were 1,388 at Franklin Falls, and 974 were reported from Concord, all on August 23rd.

2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were seen near the Little Cherry Pond Trail at the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on August 24th.

There was an unconfirmed report of an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER seen along the Webster-Jackson Trail in Crawford Notch in the White Mountain National Forest on August 24th.
