Anita Fernandez recently joined the NH Audubon staff as our full time Community Outreach Coordinator. She hails from Michigan until moving to New Hampshire in 2022. She attended the University of Michigan and worked in Fleet management for about a decade prior to moving here. We got to know Anita when she began volunteering with a few of our community science projects last year.
“Working at NH Audubon has been a great experience. I learn about the wildlife and natural areas of NH on a daily basis, and I’m proud to be able to work with a passionate, collaborative team that does such important work,” Anita says of her tenure so far. “I never had any interest in birds growing up,” she adds. “My grandmother bred birds in her house when I was young, and I always thought they were loud and dirty. It wasn’t until 2019 when I was on a trip in Sarasota, FL visiting the Celery Fields on the property of Sarasota Audubon, that I really grew a deep appreciation for birds as they were meant to live and be seen.”
When she’s not planning Earth Day and other big events, Anita enjoys nature journaling and field sketching, plus exploring nature with her dog. “I’ve also really enjoyed starting to spend some time on and around the ocean, which wasn’t an option back in Michigan.”
Welcome to the team, Anita!
