Metamorphosis Update

Metamorphosis Update

(by Shelby Morelli)

The Northern Leopard Frog tadpoles are growing up fast! This little one at our McLane Center has begun sprouting legs, with the hind legs coming in first and the front legs not far behind. Check out the picture to see the toes coming off the leg, soon to be used for jumping! It’s also developed a spiracle, which is helping it breathe while still spending time in the water.

It’s amazing to watch this little tadpole transition and get closer to becoming a full-fledged frog! Stay tuned to see the next stages of its journey and for this to happen to the Northern Leopard Frog tadpole at the Massabesic Center too.
