NH Audubon’s Massabesic Center is bursting with bright splashes of color this winter! A new art exhibit, “Blossoming Beyond: Celebrating Queerness in Nature,” organized by Queerlective, a local group that advocates for inclusivity of queer and BIPOC communities, is now on display at the Massabesic Center through March 30th. The exhibit’s opening reception took place on Saturday and was a resounding success. The reception was attended by over 70 visitors, including artists, staff from both organizations, their families, and other members of the community.
Massabesic Center’s Director, Kimmie Whiteman says this about the opening event, “It was such an uplifting and joyous experience to see the Massabesic Center lit up with smiling faces and laughter from so many people enjoying their shared experiences with nature.”
The artworks themselves are an amalgam of talent with abstract interpretation including 3D textures, traditional depictions of nature via photography and painting, and even some framed poetry pieces that embody resilience and Pride. Each work highlights personal connections and intersectionality of the queer and BIPOC communities and our natural habitat.
