Practice your bird identification skills in anticipation of the Backyard Winter Bird Survey! Join Devin Guilfoyle, Newfound Center & Public Programs Coordinator, and Grace McCulloch, Community Science Project Leader, as we look for common winter birds in NH and learn tricks to identify them. Grace will also introduce this survey, which has been done for 35+ years, and will be around to answer any questions about the survey.
We will meet at the front doors of the Massabesic Center’s main building. This is an informal walk intended for novice birdwatchers, but experienced birdwatchers are also welcome to share their experience. The Massabesic Sanctuary is home to many woodland and grassland birds. Species seen recently include Eastern Bluebird, Red-shouldered Hawk, and Common Raven.
This is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be snowy, soggy, or muddy. Dogs are not allowed on this walk.
By attending this event, you and anyone you register on behalf of agree to NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver.
