A Summer of Outdoor Fun and Exploration at Camp

(by Claire Adams)

With summer officially soon coming to an end, I wanted to share a few of the highlights of the Summer 2025 Nature Day Camp season. This summer, we hosted nine weeks of camp at the McLane and Massabesic Centers for over 500 campers ages 5-15. The campers and seasonal camp staff enjoyed learning about our native wildlife through hiking, ponding, and live animal presentations with our wildlife ambassadors. They also held a Nature Art Show at the end of Session 2 and a Science Fair at the end of Session 8 where they were able to share their imaginative creations with their families. We also held two weeks of our most popular Survival Strategies sessions which focused on how to safely and responsibly explore nature as well as the amazing adaptations that wildlife use to survive. Overall, staff and campers had lots of fun while experiencing lots of hands-on learning!

We also hosted two weeks of Conservation Quest, a filmmaking camp experience for 10-14-year-olds lead by our partner Media Power Youth. While this was the program’s third year, it was the first time it was held at the McLane Center in Concord to great success. Over 30 campers participated in those two weeks of camp who made a total of seven short nature documentaries on topics ranging from vernal pools to common nighthawks to invasive species. Those films were then showcased at a film festival at Red River Theatres in Concord in August. It was amazing to see the campers and Media Power Youth staff engage their creativity through storytelling and filmmaking while spreading such important conservation messages.

We hope you’ll join us in 2026. Until then, take a look at these photos showcasing the awesome activities we got up to this summer!
