The Goodhue-Elkins Award

Nomination deadline April 1

The Goodhue-Elkins Award has been presented annually since 1995 to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the study of New Hampshire birds. The award is named for Charles Goodhue, one of the state’s great pioneer birders, and Kimball Elkins, the model of critical observation and insightful record-keeping.

While Goodhue-Elkins awardees typically have made their contributions to bird study as volunteers, primarily professional contributions also may be considered that represented a level of commitment to the study of New Hampshire’s birds above and beyond their vocation. Current New Hampshire Audubon staff members are not eligible to receive this award, except under exceptional circumstances.

Golden Binoculars Award

Much of what NH Audubon does either wouldn’t get done – or would take longer to do – without the aid of dozens of volunteers, who collectively put in thousands of hours toward our mission each year. To better honor the breadth of this volunteer investment, we are re-instituting the Golden Binocular Award. This award was first created in 1994 and after a hiatus of nearly 20 years we are very happy to reintroduce it. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding volunteers who has gone above and beyond a typical volunteer contribution. The award may reflect longevity of service, an extraordinary number of hours, an outstanding contribution in a single year, or work on a single project. Recipients are encouraged to wear their binoculars proudly as they continue to represent NH Audubon in their varied capacities.
