DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day with us at Massabesic Center on Saturday\, April 22\, 2023 from 10am-4pm. We will celebrate planet Earth with a variety of family-friendly activities\, while also learning how to conserve wildlife and natural resources. Activities include guided nature walks\, animal ambassador presentations\, master gardener demonstrations\, children’s story time\, and crafts. \nCost: $10 for a family of 4 (members)\, $15 for a family of 4 (non-members). Pre-registration is highly recommended\, but we can accept walk-up registration. DESCRIPTION:Date: April 18th\, 5:00pm-6:30pm \nPrice: $12 for members\, $15 for non-members \nJoin local nature photographer\, Tracy Brunner\, at the Massabesic Center for an evening photo hike along Massabesic Lake. The walk will start at the Center and continue on the trails to photograph the beautiful lakeshore landscapes and the local wildlife. Come to Massabesic Center in Auburn for our Summer Camp Open House!\n\nThis is the perfect opportunity to meet your camp directors (Slater Roosa and Shelby Morelli) and some of our amazing camp staff\, meet our resident reptiles\, and learn more about NH Audubon’s Summer Camp programming. \nCampers who are registered or are thinking about registering for either the Friends of the Eagle camp in Concord or Camp Wildside in Auburn are welcome to join\, as well as their families. \n\n\nShelby gives campers in Concord a tour of the raptor mews.\n\nThe team from Media Power Youth will be on hand to talk about our new week of camp: Conservation Quest! This special week at Massabesic Center is all about nature filmmaking for ages 10-14. \nThe Open House will take place at the Massabesic Center (26 Audubon Way\, Auburn\, NH\, 03032). We will be indoors for our meet and greet\, but our trails\, gardens\, and animal exhibits will be open for you to explore at your leisure. Light snacks and beverages will be available. \nSchedule for the Evening:\n5:00pm – Open House begins\n5:30pm – Mini nature walk with Shelby\n6:00pm – Short presentation from NH Audubon and Media Power Youth\n6:30pm – Animal ambassador meet+greet with Slater\n7:00pm – Farewell until Camp! DESCRIPTION:April 13\, 5:00pm – 6:30pm \nA rain garden is a beautiful landscape feature built in a shallow depression designed to capture the rain. Did you know that rain gardens help reduce water pollution? Join us to learn all about rain gardens\, including why people are loving them\, how to build them\, which plants to use\, and more. We’ll discuss other ways to capture the rain too\, and why that’s so important. As a bonus\, we’ll hear from Master Gardeners who have recently rehabbed the on-site rain garden! SUMMARY:NestWatch Volunteer Training: Bluebird Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:Learn about and get involved in a community science project to monitor field-nesting birds at NH Audubon’s Massabesic Center!  This workshop focuses on Eastern Bluebirds\, and will teach you identification\, natural history\, conservation status and how to collect data as a Bluebird Trail Monitor.  \nWe will begin in the classroom at 10am with a break for lunch (please bring your own lunch and water). After lunch\, we’ll head outside for the last hour to learn the trails and nest box locations\, clean out residual nest materials from last year\, and practice field identification of early season birds. \nNH Audubon Massabesic Center is home to almost 100 monitored nest boxes. Volunteer monitors are expected to contribute one to two hours each week from April to August to record data in their designated sections. \nWorkshop participants are not required to become volunteer monitors; you can learn the process and take your new skills with you anywhere! \nPresenters:\nLogan Young\, NH Audubon Massabesic Center NestWatch Chapter Coordinator\nBob Krewson\, NH Audubon Bluebird Monitor Volunteer Leader \nCost:\nFree for NH Audubon members\n$5 for non-members \nRegistration Required by March 30\, 2023 \nIndoor presentation will take place indoors\, rain or shine.  Outdoor portion will take place unless there is severe weather. Weather notifications will be made via email the day before.  Dress for the weather and be prepared to walk up to one mile over mostly flat\, but uneven grassy terrain. We will discuss identification resources and tips as well as wildcrafting ethics\, as well as medicinal benefits\, harvesting tips\, and cautions for some common wild plants. Potential plants we may see and discuss include celandine\, burdock\, horsetail\, dandelion\, white pine\, as well as the “at risk” plant goldthread and it’s medicinal analog\, the invasive barberry.
