DESCRIPTION:Description: Are you ready to “grow beyond” buying plants for your garden\, and move to the next level? This workshop will discuss why\, how\, and when to purchase seeds\, and what you’ll need to be successful. We’ll look at how to decide which seeds to buy\, from which vendors\, how to read a seed packet\, and how to navigate seed catalogs. This workshop is focused on vegetable gardening\, but the information will apply equally to flowers. We will learn the important concept of seed “shelf-life.” Money-saving tips will also be discussed. \nPresenter: UNH Extension Master Gardener Will Lowenthal \nCost: $10 for NH Audubon members/Extension Master Gardeners; $15 for non-members \nRegistration Required by: January 15. SUMMARY:Wildlife of New Hampshire Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:From the majestic White Mountains of the North\, to the rocky shores of the New Hampshire coast\, and even simply in his own backyard\, Cameron has searched far and wide to document the different species that inhabit the Granite State. From incredibly rare vagrant birds\, to the most common species you’d see walking down the street\, these photographs hope to show off the breadth of ecological diversity close to home. Each photo comes with a story: some are harrowing trips that took weeks to plan\, others just involve pure\, dumb luck\, but each encounter created an unforgettable moment. \nExamples of Cameron’s work.\nBio: Cameron is a wildlife photographer and a resident of Dover\, New Hampshire. He got his start in photography as a concert photographer and a photojournalist and developed a passion for birding during the summer of 2021. He now spends his free time helping run the New Hampshire Rare Bird Alert Groupme\, volunteering with New Hampshire Audubon and the Harris Center\, and photographing as much wildlife as possible.

DESCRIPTION:Get festive with our team of wreath-building extraordinaires! Learn how to decorate a natural balsam wreath using materials found in your garden. Our volunteer team will guide you through the steps of decorating a balsam frame and will teach you the ins and outs of gathering materials\, including what holds up and what doesn’t\, as well as how to collect material responsibly and sustainably. We’ll teach you how to trim your materials to size and how to affix your materials into a tasteful arrangement. The knowledge you gain in this workshop can be applied to wreaths for any season! \nBeautiful wreaths created in past years. (Click to enlarge.)\nYou are welcome to bring your own found materials (no oriental bittersweet or other invasive plant material\, please)\, but it is not required. Everything you need to construct a full\, beautiful wreath made of natural materials will be provided\, and you’ll leave the evening with a masterpiece ready to hang on your door for the holidays. \nIf you would like to decorate your wreath with a bow\, please bring your own ribbon. Bow-tying will be discussed on request at the end of the workshop if time allows. \nPre-constructed wreath frames measure 24 inches in diameter – the perfect size for your front door! \nThis in-person workshop will take place entirely indoors. SUMMARY:Birding Outing at the Massabesic Center
DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing along the trails at the Massabesic Center in Auburn\, NH. We will meet at the front doors of the main building. \nThis is an informal birding outing that begins at Massabesic Center trailhead and explores the trails with local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member\, Joe Mahoney. All ages and skill levels of birders are welcome. If you are new to birding\, come and learn the basics! If you are an avid birder\, come to learn new techniques\, network with other birders\, or share your expertise with the group. \nThe Massabesic Wildlife Refuge is home to many species who prefer open space and lakeshore habitats. You may see species such as Eastern Bluebirds\, Red-shouldered Hawks\, Common Loons\, and Bald Eagles in the fields and on the lake. \nThis is a free event. Binocular rental is provided. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be soggy or muddy in the rainy season. Dogs are not allowed on this walk.

DESCRIPTION:*Rescheduled from October 7* Keeping tools sharp and in good working order will make gardening easier and tools last longer.  Sharp tools also make cleaner cuts and promote plant health.  Join AJ Dupere to learn how to properly and safely sharpen and maintain garden tools.  Please bring one of the following tools to sharpen: pruners\, loppers\, spades\, edging tools\, garden shears\, and a file if you have one. This is a hands-on workshop. You will be sharpening the tool(s) that you bring. Bring gloves and be prepared to get dirty. \nPresenters: A.J. Dupere is an Urban Forester with the NH Division of Forest and Lands.
