SUMMARY:Professional Development - Back to School Gardening\, Part 1
DESCRIPTION:PART 1 HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO ZOOM \nJoin Richard Hodges from ReTreeUs for a two-part workshop to discover a novel way to grow schoolyard gardens. In these workshops\, we’ll talk about sheet mulching techniques\, succession planting\, and building organic matter with an easy-to-do method. You’ll also learn the basic considerations and steps for planning and starting a schoolyard vegetable garden. \nIn Part 1 of the workshop\, we’ll get hands-on (virtually) with the “sheet mulching” practice we utilize in school gardens in the spring to prevent weeds and build soil. We will learn about direct-sowing crops that grow well over the summer with minimal maintenance while discussing best practices for school gardens. \nAfter the workshop\, we’ll provide information for you to tour the successful Teaching and Demonstration Garden\, which is maintained through a partnership between NH Audubon and UNH-Extension\, and provides the public with research-based\, sustainable gardening information and skills that benefit our environment for wildlife and for people. \nCost: $10 for NH Audubon members $15 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today! Not sure of your membership status? Email our member services department or call (603) 224-9909 x310.)  \nAdvance registration required for Part 1 by July 10th at 12pm. \nIf you will be also attending Part 2\, register via the Part 2 link. Your webinar access will be generated automatically\, free of charge.  Please don’t pay twice! \nAll ticket purchases will generate a printable ticket with a QR code. In-person check-in is done via sign-up list; please keep the printable ticket with QR code for your records.   \nZoom links will be sent to all virtual participants prior to the webinar. The link does not generate immediately\, so your patience is appreciated. Every effort will be made to record the presentation for registered attendees who miss the livestream.    \nPayPal Disclaimer:  \nOur ticket system utilizes NH Audubon’s PayPal account to facilitate sales. Registrants are not required to make a PayPal account to check out; a “guest” option is available. \nFor accessibility requests\, please contact Massabesic Center Director\, Kimmie Whiteman\, at kwhiteman@nhaudubon.org. \nDon’t forget to also sign up for Part 2 on August 30th\, 4:00pm – 6:00pm! \nPhoto: Image from ReTreeUs showing a healthy garden grown with sheet-mulching techniques. \n  \n
