SUMMARY:Monarch Migration: How Radio-tagging Informs Conservation with Diane De Luca
DESCRIPTION:The last generation of monarchs travel south to overwinter in central Mexico. A journey close to 3000 miles. The placement of tiny Nanotags on migrating monarch butterflies is part of the larger Motus Project\, a global migration tracking system that NH Audubon and many partners are expanding in the Northeast. Tracking information helps determine phenology\, travel speeds\, and migration routes of the tagged monarchs. During this online presentation\, we will share what we have learned in the last two years of tagging monarchs and how this helps inform conservation.  \nThis presentation will take place virtually via Zoom.  \nPresenter:\nDiane De Luca\, NH Audubon Senior Biologist  \nCost:\n$12 for NH Audubon members\n$15 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today! Not sure of your membership status? Email our member services department or call (603) 224-9909 x310.) \nRegistration Required by November 8\, 2023  \nAll ticket purchases will generate a printable ticket with a QR code; please keep the printable ticket with QR code for your records.  \nZoom links will be sent to all virtual participants prior to the webinar. The link does not generate immediately\, so your patience is appreciated. Every effort will be made to record the presentation for registered attendees who miss the livestream.  \nFor accessibility requests\, please contact Massabesic Center Director\, Kimmie Whiteman\, at kwhiteman@nhaudubon.org.  \nThe NH Audubon Scientist Series features our Senior Biologists sharing their research and data in monthly presentations at Massabesic Center during 2023.  \n

Our volunteer team will guide you through the steps of decorating a balsam frame and will teach you the ins and outs of gathering materials\, including what holds up and what doesn’t\, as well as how to collect material responsibly and sustainably. We’ll teach you how to trim your materials to size and how to affix your materials into a tasteful arrangement. The knowledge you gain in this workshop can be applied to wreaths for any season! \nYou are welcome to bring your own found materials (no oriental bittersweet or other invasive plant material\, please)\, but it is not required. Everything you need to construct a full\, beautiful wreath made of natural materials will be provided\, and you’ll leave the evening with a masterpiece ready to hang on your door for the holidays.
