SUMMARY:Professional Development - Back to School Gardening\, Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Richard Hodges from ReTreeUs for the last of a two-part workshop to discover a novel way to grow schoolyard gardens. In these workshops\, we’ll talk about sheet mulching techniques\, succession planting\, and building organic matter with an easy-to-do method. You’ll also learn the basic considerations and steps for planning and starting a schoolyard vegetable garden. UNH-Extension Master Gardeners will be on site to talk specifics about pollinator gardens\, as well. \nIn this session\, we will harvest the crops that were planted in the “Back to School Garden” that we established in the spring session. We’ll transplant lettuce\, spinach and kale seedlings for the fall. We will install row cover\, with mini hoops\, to extend the growing season and we’ll discuss various approaches to fall gardens. \nAfter the workshop\, we’ll see these methods and more in action while touring the successful Teaching and Demonstration Garden\, which is maintained through a partnership between NH Audubon and UNH-Extension\, and provides the public with research-based\, sustainable gardening information and skills that benefit our environment for wildlife and for people. \nThis program will take place outdoors rain or shine. In the event of severe thunderstorms\, we will postpone.  Dress for a short walk in grassy uneven terrain\, with the intention to get hands-on with soil and plants. Please bring gloves; we will have some available on site if you need to borrow a pair. \nCost: $10 for NH Audubon members $15 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today! Not sure of your membership status? Email our member services department or call (603) 224-9909 x310.)  \nAdvance registration required for Part 2 by August 27th. \nAll ticket purchases will generate a printable ticket with a QR code. In-person check-in is done via sign-up list; please keep the printable ticket with QR code for your records.   \nPayPal Disclaimer:  \nOur ticket system utilizes NH Audubon’s PayPal account to facilitate sales. Registrants are not required to make a PayPal account to check out; a “guest” option is available. \nFor accessibility requests\, please contact Massabesic Center Director\, Kimmie Whiteman\, at kwhiteman@nhaudubon.org. \nDon’t miss Part 1\, taking place virtually on July 10th\, 3:00pm – 4:00pm! \nAll participants who register for Part 2 before July 10th\, will receive free access to the live webinar. Participants who register after July 10th will be provided with free access to the webinar recording.  Please don’t pay twice! \nPhoto: Image from ReTreeUs showing a healthy garden grown with sheet-mulching techniques.
