SUMMARY:Painting the Natural Landscape Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Nature is all around us and artist Diane Crespo is drawn to capturing the essence of the landscape in her vivid oil paintings. From the mountains to the sea\, all across New England\, nature’s beauty is\never-changing and beckons to be painted. Certain elements such as water can bring about a feeling of calm in the ebb and flow of tidal marshes\, while the sky and light help to describe form and design that is\, in itself simple and complex. The changing seasons offer an abundance of opportunity to view the dappling of shadows across a field of green or the cool shadows laden on a winter’s snow. In ‘Painting the Natural Landscape’ you will discover scenes across New England through the eyes of the artist. \nBio: Diane Crespo is an academically trained landscape painter living in Southeast New Hampshire. She earned her BFA from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2011. Prior to pursuing a fine art degree\, Diane painted only with pastels\, taking classes with a local pastel teacher. Diane paints primarily in oils and pastels\, and commonly paints over acrylic under-paintings or tonal under-paintings with oil paint. When her schedule allows\, Diane will start a painting outdoors and finish it in the studio or she will use it as a study for a future studio painting. \nLiving in New England\, there is endless inspiration for Diane’s paintings. As a nature lover\, Diane sees beauty from the coast to the mountains while she’s either walking the beach or hiking in the White Mountains. Diane’s paintings are in private collections worldwide\, many of which have been commissioned landscapes as well as pet portraits. This workshop will discuss why\, how\, and when to purchase seeds\, and what you’ll need to be successful. We’ll look at how to decide which seeds to buy\, from which vendors\, how to read a seed packet\, and how to navigate seed catalogs. SUMMARY:Birds of the Winter Coast
DESCRIPTION:Join veteran birder and former ornithology instructor Rich Aaronian to look for the birds that make the New Hampshire coast their home during the winter. The trip will start at Hampton Beach State Park and proceed north up the coast as we look for loons\, scoters\, mergansers\, grebes\, shorebirds\, and perhaps other specialties such as “white-winged gulls”\, Horned Larks\, and Snow Buntings. Dress warmly in layers and bring water and a snack. She earned her BFA from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2011. Prior to pursuing a fine art degree\, Diane painted only with pastels\, taking classes with a local pastel teacher. Adair Mulligan leads an armchair tour of this great river in New Hampshire and Vermont\, exploring its history and natural beauty through the seasons and among the communities that have sprung up along its banks. Next\, the discussion will shift to how the river has influenced the lives of those who live there\, and how they\, in turn\, have affected the river. Much more than a travelogue\, this presentation explores the many issues involved in managing the health of this major river\, and how citizens from all walks of life have created a vision for its future. SUMMARY:Zoom Program: A Birding Cruise around Cape Horn
DESCRIPTION:Join Becky Suomala on a boat trip from Santiago\, Chile around Cape Horn to Buenos Aires\, Argentina. In addition to seabirding for albatross and the other pelagic species in southern waters\, there were landbird stops in Chile\, Argentina\, and Uruguay. One of the highlights was a visit to a penguin colony on the Falkland Islands. See some of the great seabirds\, landbirds\, and even mammals such as guanacos\, as well as the beauty of Cape Horn\, the Magellanic Strait\, and the Beagle Channel. \nBio: Becky Suomala is an avid birder who birds extensively in New Hampshire and takes birding trips to far flung places. She retired from NH Audubon in 2024 after over 36 years as a biologist. She led research on Common Nighthawks in NH and participated in numerous field projects including Common Tern restoration at the Isles of Shoals. She is a songbird bander at the Appledore Island Migration Station in spring and fall and tends her garden in the summer. \nFor more information see the chapter website and visit their page to register.

DESCRIPTION:Thousands of crows have a winter roost along the Merrimac River in Lawrence. Join veteran birders and crow experts Dana and Bob Fox for a late afternoon trip to witness the spectacle of thousands of birds flying in from all directions to roost for the night. Participants will meet before sunset at the New Balance Parking lot on South Union St. in Lawrence\, MA just south of the Merrimack River\, to watch both the resident and migrant American and Fish Crows stage. From the parking lot we will car pool to watch where they will choose to roost that evening. In the event of inclement weather\, the trip will be held on January 5th. SUMMARY:Wildlife of New Hampshire Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:From the majestic White Mountains of the North\, to the rocky shores of the New Hampshire coast\, and even simply in his own backyard\, Cameron has searched far and wide to document the different species that inhabit the Granite State. From incredibly rare vagrant birds\, to the most common species you’d see walking down the street\, these photographs hope to show off the breadth of ecological diversity close to home. Each photo comes with a story: some are harrowing trips that took weeks to plan\, others just involve pure\, dumb luck\, but each encounter created an unforgettable moment. \nExamples of Cameron’s work.\nBio: Cameron is a wildlife photographer and a resident of Dover\, New Hampshire. He got his start in photography as a concert photographer and a photojournalist and developed a passion for birding during the summer of 2021. He now spends his free time helping run the New Hampshire Rare Bird Alert Groupme\, volunteering with New Hampshire Audubon and the Harris Center\, and photographing as much wildlife as possible.

SUMMARY:Painting the Natural Landscape Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Nature is all around us and artist Diane Crespo is drawn to capturing the essence of the landscape in her vivid oil paintings. From the mountains to the sea\, all across New England\, nature’s beauty is\never-changing and beckons to be painted. Certain elements such as water can bring about a feeling of calm in the ebb and flow of tidal marshes\, while the sky and light help to describe form and design that is\, in itself simple and complex. The changing seasons offer an abundance of opportunity to view the dappling of shadows across a field of green or the cool shadows laden on a winter’s snow. In ‘Painting the Natural Landscape’ you will discover scenes across New England through the eyes of the artist. \n \nBio: Diane Crespo is an academically trained landscape painter living in Southeast New Hampshire. She earned her BFA from New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2011. Prior to pursuing a fine art degree\, Diane painted only with pastels\, taking classes with a local pastel teacher. Diane paints primarily in oils and pastels\, and commonly paints over acrylic under-paintings or tonal under-paintings with oil paint. When her schedule allows\, Diane will start a painting outdoors and finish it in the studio or she will use it as a study for a future studio painting. \nLiving in New England\, there is endless inspiration for Diane’s paintings. As a nature lover\, Diane sees beauty from the coast to the mountains while she’s either walking the beach or hiking in the White Mountains. Diane’s paintings are in private collections worldwide\, many of which have been commissioned landscapes as well as pet portraits. Painting animals in pastel is also one of Diane’s passions. “Pastels are the perfect medium to achieve the softness of the fur.”Her paintings can be viewed in person by appointment or by chance at Diane Crespo Fine Art\, located at 27 Front Street\, Exeter\, New Hampshire\, or at many yearly shows she participates in. \n“My landscapes take viewers to many places\, some are familiar\, some are dreamlike….”\n~Diane Crespo

SUMMARY:Searching for Natural Moments:  Scenes from African Safaris and Costa Rican Rainforests
DESCRIPTION:The New Hampshire Audubon McLane Center is pleased to announce that Nature and Wildlife Photographer Howard Muscott will be sharing his intimate images from two of Kenya’s most prolific wildlife locations and various habitats in Costa Rica. Searching for Natural Moments will take the viewer on Safari with Howard in the Masai Mara National Reserve and Amboseli National Park looking for iconic mammals like lions and cubs\, leopards\, cheetahs\, elephants and zebras and other wildlife and on trails in the rain forests of Costa Rica in search of monkeys and birds. The exhibition will be on display from Wednesday\, November 6 through Saturday\, December 28\, 2024. \nExamples from Howard Muscott’s exhibit. Self-taught\, Howard has had more than 30 individual and 60 group shows. His work has been published on the cover of national journals in education\, in newspapers\, and used for educational and other websites. He has won awards for both wildlife and portraits. He was the Manchester Artists Association Artist of the Year for 2020 and was juried into the prestigious New Hampshire Art Association.
