SUMMARY:Creative Nature Ventures Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit highlights the nature-inspired work of a group of local artists\, led by Bill Turner\, that meets once a week at Creative Ventures\, located in Milford\, NH. During these sessions\, typically 8-10 artists bring their work (either an in-progress or a completed work). Each piece is displayed before the group and generates a friendly discussion centered on suggestions that help lead to a more exciting work of art. The main focus of the work is realism\, however\, abstract artists also benefit from the feedback process. Recently\, there has been a nature focus within the group\, including many paintings of bird species\, in particular. Collaborating with NH Audubon to display these pieces is a natural connection. We look forward to generating interest and excitement for our works with other art-\, bird-\, and nature- enthusiasts. \n \nThe exhibit will be on display in the Massabesic Center’s large function room during regular operating hours. Viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals and education programs. Calling ahead to confirm is recommended.

SUMMARY:Jeffrey's Ledge Pelagic Birding Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon aboard MV Granite State as we explore Jeffreys Ledge\, 20 miles off the New Hampshire coast. This is an all-day expedition (between 8-10 hours at sea)\, departing from Rye Harbor\, to look for pelagic (ocean-going) seabirds on Jeffreys Ledge\, although we’ll also keep an eye out for whales and other marine life. Jeffreys Ledge is an undersea ridge running northeast from near Rockport\, Massachusetts to near Cape Elizabeth\, Maine. Its steep sides produce upwellings of nutrient-rich waters that produce a lot of food for seabirds and marine life. \nWhat we will see: From the upper deck\, a person with good binoculars can scan a circle of ocean a couple of miles across\, with a good chance of seeing groups of birds quite some distance away. On past fall trips\, we have seen four different species of Shearwater (Great\, Sooty\, Cory’s\, and Manx)\, Northern Gannets\, Red-necked Phalaropes in fall plumage\, Wilson’s Storm-petrel\, jaegers\, an array of near-shore species\, and random migrants. We’ve also seen several different species of whales and dolphins\, including Fin\, Minke\, Right\, and Humpback Whales\, Harbor Porpoises\, Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins\, and once a rare Sperm Whale on the outer edge of Jeffreys Ledge. \nPresenter: Renowned birders and NH Audubon volunteers Steve and Jane Mirick will be our group leaders\, with Captain Pete Reynolds driving the boat. NH Audubon volunteer and avid birder Jon Woolf will coordinate logistics. \nFor mobility\, sensory\, behavioral\, or other accessibility accommodations\, please contact Slater Roosa. \nCost: $80 for NH Audubon members; $100 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today! Not sure of your membership status? Email our member services department or call (603) 224-9909 x310.) \nRegistration Required. NH Audubon’s ticket system utilizes PayPal to process payments. Users are not required to use PayPal to check out; a guest option is provided. PayPal is a trusted way to pay online. \nPlease note we have set a maximum of 50 people\, to allow for comfortable spacing and an enjoyable bird-watching experience. These trips sell out quickly\, and we do not run a waiting list. \nThis trip is weather-dependent. Final decisions on whether we can comfortably set sail will be made the day before. There are no rain dates. First priority for registration will be granted to participants from the previous tour’s weather cancellation\, if applicable. \nConfirmation letters\, including the webinar Zoom link and information about what to bring and what to wear\, will be sent to all participants after we sell out (typically in early May). \nPlease review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. \nCover photo of a Cory’s Shearwater by Steve Mirick.

DESCRIPTION:Visit the McLane Center May 7-June 27 to see Kate Osgood’s McLane Center Pollinator Garden in Pictures Exhibit. \n“The pollinator garden at McLane Center is an ever-evolving mosaic of flora and fauna. As a volunteer\, working in the gardens has afforded me the wonderful experience of getting to know the plants and the critters that coexist. My photography attempts to highlight these interactions and to share with human visitors the beauty and the importance of the gardens.” \n  \nBio: Kate Osgood is a landscape architect and nature photographer. Originally from Exeter\, she lived and worked out west for many years before returning to the area. Her work and photography is rooted in natural systems and a deep love of nature. \n“The protection and enhancement of natural systems and wildlife ecology is the driving force behind my designs and photography. I believe that the more people experience the beauty of nature\, the more likely they are to become invested in its protection and thus foster stewardship for future generations.” \n  \nArt exhibit viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals.

SUMMARY:Massabesic Gardens Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate guided tour of the gardens at the Massabesic Center in Auburn. We will lead you on a fun ramble of the grounds\, and dig into the history\, upkeep\, and future of each of our unique garden spaces. \nYou’ll learn about NH Audubon’s partnership with the University of New Hampshire Extension’s Master Gardener Program to create Demonstration Gardens that provide a place for sharing best practices in eco-friendly home and community gardening\, for human health and well-being and wildlife habitat. These gardens include spaces for pollinators\, birds\, butterflies\, veggies\, rainwater\, and an ornamental space that serves as the backdrop for wedding ceremonies. \nYou’ll also learn about our community partnership with the Massabesic Garden Club and their efforts to rehabilitate the space lovingly called the Barn Garden. \nLast but not least\, discover our plan for expanding the Garden for the Senses\, and take a peaceful pause in the Cathy Small Memorial Garden. \nYou’ll leave with an appreciation for the hard work that goes into our spaces by the team of over 40 volunteers who maintain our grounds. We’ll provide information for upcoming educational workshops and ways you can get involved with volunteering in our gardens. \nDress for walking in short grass on flat but uneven terrain. Bring your camera\, sunscreen\, bug spray\, and questions about creating pollinator habitat at your home. \nThis event is free to attend. Please RSVP to help us get a headcount of how many people to expect. This event will be cancelled if severe inclement weather is forecasted. \nSupport our programs and join or renew your membership today! Not sure of your membership status? Email our member services department or call (603) 224-9909 x310. \nFor mobility\, sensory\, behavioral\, or other accessibility accommodations\, please contact Massabesic Center Director\, Kimmie Whiteman. \nPhoto: Garden Room with a View by Walt Swist
