SUMMARY:Blossoming Beyond: Celebrating Queerness in Nature
DESCRIPTION:NH Audubon is thrilled to be partnering with Queerlective to provide a space to showcase their “Blossoming Beyond: Celebrating Queerness in Nature” exhibit. Blossoming Beyond explores the connection between queerness and nature\, showcasing pieces of work that represent the resilience\, strength\, and beauty of both the natural world and the LGBTQ+ community. The exhibition celebrates diversity and the intrinsic bond between individuals and the environment. Queerlective works to help create a more inclusive world for the Queer\, BIPOC\, and other marginalized communities through art\, impacting the LGBTQ community in New Hampshire and beyond. This partnership highlights NH Audubon’s commitment to protecting nature for all people\, promoting diversity and inclusivity\, and expanding opportunities to enjoy nature together. NH Audubon will be donating half of our typical commission to uplift Queerlective’s mission and to help foster the innate connection between nature and queerness. \nAn artists’ reception will take place today\, January 27\, 2-5pm at the Massabesic Center.

SUMMARY:Nature In Focus: Images of Flora\, Fauna\, and Landscapes of New England
DESCRIPTION:An Exhibition of Nature Photography by Bob Fleck\, N.H. Author and Photographer \n“In all things of Nature\, there is something of the marvelous.” – Aristotle \nPhoto one: Ruby-throated Hummingbird by Bob Fleck; Photo two: Pink Lady’s Slippers by Bob Fleck.\nThe selections of photography in this exhibition portray the artist’s interpretation of Aristotle’s ancient words. Curated from images photographed by Bob Fleck – Author and Photographer over the past decade\, the overarching theme of the exhibit is “finding the marvelous” available to us in the natural world and bringing it into focus via photography. We need not travel beyond New Hampshire and New England to be in awe. \nAs you ponder the images presented\, search for the details\, the “marvelous”\, the overall beauty that abounds in nature. Many instances presented by the photographer were but a moment in time\, yet a memory forever. The collection represents such a small fraction of what is discoverable\, if we only take the time to look and see (and sometimes lucky enough to capture) “something of the marvelous.”

SUMMARY:Ospreys of the Lakes Region: NH Audubon Lakes Region Chapter Program
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lakes Region Chapter of NH Audubon for this presentation by Iain MacLeod. Iain will provide a detailed overview of his 25+ years of monitoring nesting Ospreys in the NH Lakes Region. Since the first post-DDT nest was located in the region in 1997\, the population has grown and Iain has dedicated countless hours to finding new nests and following their annual outcomes. Now many pairs are choosing man-made structures – like cell towers and also now have to compete with the growing Bald Eagle Population. \nLPC is hosting this event for the Lakes Region Chapter of NH Audubon at The Loon Center (183 Lees Mill Road in Moultonborough\, NH) at 7 PM. \nPhoto by Iain MacLeod\, adult female osprey guarding her nest in the Lakes Region.

DESCRIPTION:Join the NH Audubon Seacoast Chapter for their remote January program: Caught in the SNOWstorm: 10 Years of Snowy Owl Research \nThe winter of 2013-2014 saw the largest invasion of Snowy Owls into the eastern United States in perhaps a century and marked an unprecedented opportunity to learn more about these mysterious Arctic hunters. Author and researcher Scott Weidensaul will share the story of Project SNOWstorm – how a huge collaborative effort focused on Snowy Owls came together in a few frantic weeks\, funded with the help of people from around the world\, and continues to make discoveries and unexpected insights into the life and ecology of this great white raptor. \nScott Weidensaul is the author of more than two dozen books on natural history\, including the Pulitzer Prize finalist “Living on the Wind” and his latest\, the New York Times bestseller “A World on the Wing”. Weidensaul is a contributing editor for Audubon and writes for a variety of other publications\, including Bird Watchers Digest and the Cornell Lab’s Living Bird. He is a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society and an active field researcher\, studying Northern Saw-whet Owl migration for more than 25 years\, as well as winter hummingbirds in the East\, bird migration in Alaska\, and the winter movements of Snowy Owls through Project SNOWstorm\, which he co-founded. \nThis program will be held via Zoom. For more information on chapter programs\, please contact: Dan Hubbard. Cancellations will be posted on the Seacoast Chapter website. Please register in advance for the program at the chapter website. Zoom programs begin promptly at 7:00 pm. You can register right up through the start time.
