DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing along the trails at the Contoocook River Park in Concord! \nThis is an informal birding outing that begins the Contoocook River Park parking lot at the end of Electric Avenue. We will explore the trails with Newfound Center & Public Programs Coordinator Devin Guilfoyle. All ages and skill levels of birders are welcome. If you are new to birding\, come and learn the basics! If you are an avid birder\, come to learn new techniques\, network with other birders\, or share your expertise with the group. \nThis area is mostly forested habitat that is surrounded by the Contoocook River. Previous bird sightings here include American Robin\, Downy Woodpecker\, and Ruby-crowned Kinglet. \nThis is a free event. Binocular rental is provided. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through wooded terrain. Trails may be soggy or muddy. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. This site does not have bathroom access. \nPlease review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. SUMMARY:Jeffrey's Ledge Pelagic Birding Trip
DESCRIPTION:*Trip date rescheduled to Monday\, October 13 (original date October 12)* \nJoin NH Audubon aboard MV Granite State as we explore Jeffreys Ledge\, 20 miles off the New Hampshire coast. This is an all-day expedition (between 8-10 hours at sea)\, departing from Rye Harbor\, to look for pelagic (ocean-going) seabirds on Jeffreys Ledge\, although we’ll also keep an eye out for whales and other marine life. Jeffreys Ledge is an undersea ridge running northeast from near Rockport\, Massachusetts to near Cape Elizabeth\, Maine. Its steep sides produce upwellings of nutrient-rich waters that produce a lot of food for seabirds and marine life. \nWhat we will see: From the upper deck\, a person with good binoculars can scan a circle of ocean a couple of miles across\, with a good chance of seeing groups of birds quite some distance away. On past fall trips\, we have seen four different species of Shearwater (Great\, Sooty\, Cory’s\, and Manx)\, Northern Gannets\, Red-necked Phalaropes in fall plumage\, Wilson’s Storm-petrel\, jaegers\, an array of near-shore species\, and random migrants. We’ve also seen several different species of whales and dolphins\, including Fin\, Minke\, Right\, and Humpback Whales\, Harbor Porpoises\, Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins\, and once a rare Sperm Whale on the outer edge of Jeffreys Ledge. \nPresenter: Renowned birders and NH Audubon volunteers Steve and Jane Mirick will be our group leaders\, with Captain Pete Reynolds driving the boat. NH Audubon volunteer and avid birder Jon Woolf will coordinate logistics. \nFor mobility\, sensory\, behavioral\, or other accessibility accommodations\, please contact Devin Guilfoyle. \nCost: $80 for NH Audubon members; $100 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today! DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. DESCRIPTION:Huge flocks of White Storks and Black Kites whirl over this dramatic and historic part of Spain. \nSurprisingly little visited\, this spring migration bottleneck concentrates phenomenal numbers of birds from Short-toed Eagles to Alpine Swifts\, and even the bizarre looking Eurasian Hoopoe and Northern Bald Ibis. \nBut wait\, there’s more! Roman ruins\, historic towns\, bull fighting rings\, orange groves\, and lunch at 4:00 p.m. are all part of the experience. Learn how and why\, and do a little hiding and seeking of your own\, in this installment in the Brockway Wee Explorers series! \nPrograms will begin at 10 a.m. and last about 45 minutes each. \nThis is an outdoor location with no bathroom facilities. Please dress children for the weather and be ready to walk on the trail\, sit on logs and the ground\, and dig in the dirt! DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing along the trails at the Massabesic Center in Auburn\, NH! This is an informal birding outing that begins at Massabesic Center trailhead and explores the trails with local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member\, Joe Mahoney. We will meet at the front doors of the main building. All ages and skill levels of birders are welcome. If you are new to birding\, come and learn the basics! If you are an avid birder\, come to learn new techniques\, network with other birders\, or share your expertise with the group. \nThe Massabesic Wildlife Refuge is home to many species who prefer open space and forest edges. You may see species such as Eastern Bluebirds\, Red-shouldered Hawks\, and Bald Eagles in the fields and on the lake. \nThis is a free event. Binocular rental is provided. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. SUMMARY:What's Wild: A Half Century of Wisdom from the Woods and Rivers of New England
DESCRIPTION:Join Eric Orff at the NH Audubon McLane Center in Concord for an in-depth look at his book\, What’s Wild. As the state’s first bear biologist in the 1970s\, Eric Orff began a half century career as a “forest ranger who works with animals\,” his stated dream job as a 7-year-old. Eric has worked both at NH Fish & Game and the National Wildlife Federation\, and continues to protect the natural environment of New Hampshire as a NH Audubon Environmental Policy Committee member. Eric’s career has spanned much more than bears; he has been called to work with White-tailed Deer\, bats in a laundry room\, snakes in a bathroom\, and more. Don’t miss a chance to learn about Eric’s entertaining and inspiring stories as a wildlife biologist. SUMMARY:Birding Outing at Dube's Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing along the trails at the Dube’s Pond in Hooksett! We will meet at the trailhead on Whitehall Road (Rte. 27). \nThis is an informal birding outing that begins at Dube’s Pond trailhead and explores the trails with local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member\, Joe Mahoney. All ages and skill levels of birders are welcome. If you are new to birding\, come and learn the basics! If you are an avid birder\, come to learn new techniques\, network with other birders\, or share your expertise with the group. \nThis area is home to many wetland and forest species. In the past\, we have seen birds such as Wood Ducks\, Great Blue Herons\, and a variety of warblers. \nThis is a free event. Binocular rental is provided. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be soggy or muddy in the rainy season. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. \nPlease review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering.
