DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. The tools of this art form allow him to express both the Chi (energy) and stillness of Nature with paintings of flowers\, birds\, calligraphy\, and landscapes. \nLotus pond painting featuring Bruce Iverson’s headshot.\nArtist’s Bio: As an artist\, I focus on creating artwork that reveals the natural world\, its diversity\, beauty\, and mystery. At the core of my work is a lifelong appreciation and respect for Nature and an understanding of my role within it…I only wish to experience\, learn\, and share! Hopefully\, my work speaks to others who might also resonate with this view. Four and a half billion years of evolution has brought much to be seen and appreciated! A tree’s bark\, a breaking wave\, a dragonfly’s wing\, passing clouds…. I find these things (and more) exquisitely beautiful and fascinating. As a child\, growing up in New England\, I had a basement laboratory where I explored\, experimented\, and invented. As a painter (since 1972)\, my studio and all of the outdoors have become my laboratory of continuing discovery and expression. \nAs you explore my work\, you will find it involves painting and printmaking techniques from East Asia (China\, Korea\, and Japan). The walk will last as long as participants choose\, but not beyond noon. SUMMARY:Birding Outing with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire's Forests
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand: join NH Audubon and The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire’s Forests for a birding outing at the Merrimack River Outdoor Education & Conservation Area (a.k.a. “The Floodplain”) in Concord! Devin Guilfoyle\, NH Audubon’s Newfound Center & Public Programs Coordinator\, will talk about spotting and identifying birds in a variety of NH forest habitats\, while Matt Scaccia\, the Forest Society’s Recreation & Community Relations Manager\, will talk about the unique land features of The Floodplain. Birds spotted in this area in mid-September include Wood Ducks\, Common Yellowthroats\, and Belted Kingfishers. \nWe will meet in the parking lot of The Floodplain to begin the walk. This location is just down the road from the Forest Society’s headquarters on Portsmouth Street in Concord\, and can be found on Google Maps by searching “Les Clark Nature Trailhead”. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be soggy or muddy depending on weather conditions. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. \nPlease review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. SUMMARY:Senior Garden Tour and Plant Potting Activity – Free Event for Seniors
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, September 16; 10am-12pm \n(Rain Date Wednesday\, September 17) \nSeniors are invited to the NH Audubon’s Massabesic Center here in Auburn to experience the newly constructed All-Persons Trail on a private tour of the Demonstration Gardens. Join us for this special guided meander through native pollinator gardens including a monarch waystation\, bird-friendly gardens\, vegetable and herb gardens\, and a functional rain garden. You will also enjoy our luscious Wedding Garden and experience a Garden for the Senses. We will stroll the gardens in small groups with UNH Extension Master Gardener volunteers on a level\, hard-packed\, mobility-friendly path\, geared to visitors with a wide array of physical abilities. In addition to the beautiful gardens and pollinator habitat\, keep an eye on the sky as we enjoy the wildlife that NH Audubon has to offer at this beautiful and accessible sanctuary. Our pace will be slow with plenty of opportunities for photos should you be inspired. Finish your visit with a free potting activity where you may choose a fall chrysanthemum (mum) flower to pot up and take home with you to decorate your space and reminisce about your experience here at the Massabesic Center. \nThis program is FREE but limited to 40 participants. Indoor restrooms and drinking fountains will be available during this program. Plenty of parking is available in the hard-packed dirt parking lot. A paved driveway is provided for those who need a shorter distance or more even footing to the building and gardens. Volunteers will be on-site to direct you to the program area. \nNote: If you attended the June spring tour\, we invite you to return for this September event\, to view the late summer blooms and foliage. \nThis program is funded through a generous grant from the University of New Hampshire Extension Master Gardeners Alumni Association.

DESCRIPTION:Join Joe Callanan as he presents the incredible story behind a single day photographing a mother River Otter and her 3 young for over 4 hours! \nRiver Otters are a beautiful and wild part of our local habitats\, but they are seldom seen. Usually\, an Otter sighting tends to be over in the blink of an eye as these playful and successful predators are perpetually in motion and can vanish at will. \nOtters are not territorial; their lives are spent traveling along a large circuit\, going from pond to stream to lake. Always relying on fish as the main dish\, they also eat a wide variety of other creatures along the way\, from frogs to turtles to rodents. \nSo imagine the surprise and wonder in store when Joe discovered a River Otter family and was able to study and photograph their antics for four hours straight! \nRiver Otters are part of a wonderful web of aquatic life. \nCome get an inside look at the fascinating lives these creatures lead\, and see many of the other wild animals they encounter.

SUMMARY:Brockway Wee Explorers: Senses in Nature
DESCRIPTION:The Brockway Wee Explorers program series is back! For the first program of our fall series\, we will be seeing how we use our senses of sight\, sound\, touch\, and smell to explore our natural world. \nPrograms will begin at 10 a.m. and last about 45 minutes each. \nThis is an outdoor location with no bathroom facilities. Please dress children for the weather and be ready to walk on the trail\, sit on logs and the ground\, and dig in the dirt! Please also review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. \nPrograms will be cancelled if poor weather is predicted during the program time; participants will be notified by phone of cancellations. \nTo find the meeting circle\, park at the Brockway Nature Preserve parking area along Farrington Corners Road in Hopkinton\, then follow the entrance trail across the bridge to the circle. For detailed directions\, search for Brockway Pond on Google Maps\, or visit here. \nThis program is free\, with a suggested donation of $5. DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. The tools of this art form allow him to express both the Chi (energy) and stillness of Nature with paintings of flowers\, birds\, calligraphy\, and landscapes. \nLotus pond painting featuring Bruce Iverson’s headshot.\nArtist’s Bio: As an artist\, I focus on creating artwork that reveals the natural world\, its diversity\, beauty\, and mystery. SUMMARY:Birding Outing at the Massabesic Center
DESCRIPTION:This outing will be led by local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member Joe Mahoney\, and will focus on our wildlife refuge’s summer residents. This walk will cross through mostly field and forest habitats and we can expect to see birds such as Eastern Bluebirds\, Red-Bellied Woodpeckers\, and Red Shouldered-Hawks. We will meet at the front doors of the Massabesic Center\, across the road from the parking lot. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be muddy and uneven. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing on the Northern Recreational Rail Trail! This outing will be led by Newfound Center & Public Programs Coordinator Devin Guilfoyle. We will walk a small portion of this trail in Boscawen\, which goes through field\, forest\, and river habitats. Possible bird sightings include Canada Goose\, Great Blue Heron\, and American Goldfinch. Parking is available at the Boscawen Park & Ride by the Hannah Dustin Memorial off of I-93 Exit 17 in Boscawen. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk about 2 miles over mostly flat\, paved trails\, with a slight hill to get from the parking lot to the trail. DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. The tools of this art form allow him to express both the Chi (energy) and stillness of Nature with paintings of flowers\, birds\, calligraphy\, and landscapes. \nLotus pond painting featuring Bruce Iverson’s headshot.\nArtist’s Bio: As an artist\, I focus on creating artwork that reveals the natural world\, its diversity\, beauty\, and mystery. At the core of my work is a lifelong appreciation and respect for Nature and an understanding of my role within it…I only wish to experience\, learn\, and share! Hopefully\, my work speaks to others who might also resonate with this view. Four and a half billion years of evolution has brought much to be seen and appreciated! A tree’s bark\, a breaking wave\, a dragonfly’s wing\, passing clouds…. I find these things (and more) exquisitely beautiful and fascinating. As a child\, growing up in New England\, I had a basement laboratory where I explored\, experimented\, and invented. As a painter (since 1972)\, my studio and all of the outdoors have become my laboratory of continuing discovery and expression. \nAs you explore my work\, you will find it involves painting and printmaking techniques from East Asia (China\, Korea\, and Japan). I fir le traditional Asian aesthetic fascinating and resonant. As a “tool user” I have found the tools of East Asian art to be in a class of their own… refined\, elegant\, and a joy to work with. DESCRIPTION:Nature’s Palette Exhibit by John Webster \nTwo examples of John Webster’s work.\nDescription: Nature’s Palette is comprised of a selection of works including both paintings and photography by John A. Webster. \nThis exhibit showcases the natural beauty of New England’s change of seasons – especially New Hampshire – with paintings inspired by what visions catch John’s eye. \nFor over 40 years\, just as photography has changed from film to digital\, he adapts his mediums like nature adapts. Please allow this exhibition to take you on a visual journey through his artwork. John has always found art to be an outlet to explore\, create\, and meet others. He enjoys making people happy and feeling moved by his creations. John prays you experience the natural beauty of his work\, and if a piece speaks to you\, he will be more than blessed to share his thought process. \nArtist’s Bio: John began his artistic path in trade school and honed his photography skills during his service in the U.S. Air Force (1967–1968\, Vietnam). A lifelong learner\, he earned his degree in History with a minor in Art through the GI Bill. Active in local art associations and a participant in a variety of cultural events\, John continues to grow his practice through therapeutic art classes thanks to museum partnerships with the Veterans Affairs. \n  \nArt exhibit viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals. SUMMARY:Birch St Community Gardens with the Seacoast Chapter
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a round-up of sparrows and other fall migrants at the Community Gardens off Clinton Street in Concord. Fourteen species of sparrows have been seen here\, more than any single location in the state\, including both Clay-colored and Vesper Sparrows.  Dickcissel\, Blue Grosbeak\, and Sedge Wren have also made appearances here.  Meet at 7:30 at Birch Street.
