DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. The tools of this art form allow him to express both the Chi (energy) and stillness of Nature with paintings of flowers\, birds\, calligraphy\, and landscapes. \nLotus pond painting featuring Bruce Iverson’s headshot.\nArtist’s Bio: As an artist\, I focus on creating artwork that reveals the natural world\, its diversity\, beauty\, and mystery. At the core of my work is a lifelong appreciation and respect for Nature and an understanding of my role within it…I only wish to experience\, learn\, and share! DESCRIPTION:Join Joe Callanan as he presents the incredible story behind a single day photographing a mother River Otter and her 3 young for over 4 hours! \nRiver Otters are a beautiful and wild part of our local habitats\, but they are seldom seen. Usually\, an Otter sighting tends to be over in the blink of an eye as these playful and successful predators are perpetually in motion and can vanish at will. \nOtters are not territorial; their lives are spent traveling along a large circuit\, going from pond to stream to lake. Always relying on fish as the main dish\, they also eat a wide variety of other creatures along the way\, from frogs to turtles to rodents. \nSo imagine the surprise and wonder in store when Joe discovered a River Otter family and was able to study and photograph their antics for four hours straight! \nRiver Otters are part of a wonderful web of aquatic life. \nCome get an inside look at the fascinating lives these creatures lead\, and see many of the other wild animals they encounter.

SUMMARY:Brockway Wee Explorers: Senses in Nature
DESCRIPTION:The Brockway Wee Explorers program series is back! For the first program of our fall series\, we will be seeing how we use our senses of sight\, sound\, touch\, and smell to explore our natural world. \nPrograms will begin at 10 a.m. and last about 45 minutes each. \nThis is an outdoor location with no bathroom facilities. Please dress children for the weather and be ready to walk on the trail\, sit on logs and the ground\, and dig in the dirt! Please also review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. \nPrograms will be cancelled if poor weather is predicted during the program time; participants will be notified by phone of cancellations. \nTo find the meeting circle\, park at the Brockway Nature Preserve parking area along Farrington Corners Road in Hopkinton\, then follow the entrance trail across the bridge to the circle. For detailed directions\, search for Brockway Pond on Google Maps\, or visit here. \nThis program is free\, with a suggested donation of $5. SUMMARY:Birding Outing at the Massabesic Center
DESCRIPTION:This outing will be led by local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member Joe Mahoney\, and will focus on our wildlife refuge’s summer residents. This walk will cross through mostly field and forest habitats and we can expect to see birds such as Eastern Bluebirds\, Red-Bellied Woodpeckers\, and Red Shouldered-Hawks. We will meet at the front doors of the Massabesic Center\, across the road from the parking lot. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be muddy and uneven. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. DESCRIPTION:Join NH Audubon for a birding outing on the Northern Recreational Rail Trail! This outing will be led by Newfound Center & Public Programs Coordinator Devin Guilfoyle. We will walk a small portion of this trail in Boscawen\, which goes through field\, forest\, and river habitats. Possible bird sightings include Canada Goose\, Great Blue Heron\, and American Goldfinch. Parking is available at the Boscawen Park & Ride by the Hannah Dustin Memorial off of I-93 Exit 17 in Boscawen. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk about 2 miles over mostly flat\, paved trails\, with a slight hill to get from the parking lot to the trail. This trail is shared with other hikers\, runners\, and cyclists. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. DESCRIPTION:Meditations in Ink… The Nature of Asian Brush Painting by Bruce Iverson \nDescription: For 3\,000 years the Asian cultures of China\, Korea\, and Japan have expressed their love of Nature with simple\, yet\, refined tools…brush\, ink\, inkstone\, and handmade rice paper. \n“Meditations in Ink” is an exhibit capturing Nature as experienced by Bruce Iverson using these tools and techniques. Bruce’s work draws from these traditions\, particularly\, the expressive elegance of Sumi-e brushwork. These time-honored techniques resonate deeply with Iverson- not only for their visual beauty but for the way they demand mindfulness and calm. The tools of this art form allow him to express both the Chi (energy) and stillness of Nature with paintings of flowers\, birds\, calligraphy\, and landscapes. \nLotus pond painting featuring Bruce Iverson’s headshot.\nArtist’s Bio: As an artist\, I focus on creating artwork that reveals the natural world\, its diversity\, beauty\, and mystery. At the core of my work is a lifelong appreciation and respect for Nature and an understanding of my role within it…I only wish to experience\, learn\, and share! Hopefully\, my work speaks to others who might also resonate with this view. Four and a half billion years of evolution has brought much to be seen and appreciated! A tree’s bark\, a breaking wave\, a dragonfly’s wing\, passing clouds…. I find these things (and more) exquisitely beautiful and fascinating. As a child\, growing up in New England\, I had a basement laboratory where I explored\, experimented\, and invented. As a painter (since 1972)\, my studio and all of the outdoors have become my laboratory of continuing discovery and expression. \nAs you explore my work\, you will find it involves painting and printmaking techniques from East Asia (China\, Korea\, and Japan). I fir le traditional Asian aesthetic fascinating and resonant. As a “tool user” I have found the tools of East Asian art to be in a class of their own… refined\, elegant\, and a joy to work with. Webster. \nThis exhibit showcases the natural beauty of New England’s change of seasons – especially New Hampshire – with paintings inspired by what visions catch John’s eye. \nFor over 40 years\, just as photography has changed from film to digital\, he adapts his mediums like nature adapts. Please allow this exhibition to take you on a visual journey through his artwork. John has always found art to be an outlet to explore\, create\, and meet others. He enjoys making people happy and feeling moved by his creations. John prays you experience the natural beauty of his work\, and if a piece speaks to you\, he will be more than blessed to share his thought process. \nArtist’s Bio: John began his artistic path in trade school and honed his photography skills during his service in the U.S. Air Force (1967–1968\, Vietnam). A lifelong learner\, he earned his degree in History with a minor in Art through the GI Bill. Active in local art associations and a participant in a variety of cultural events\, John continues to grow his practice through therapeutic art classes thanks to museum partnerships with the Veterans Affairs. \n  \nArt exhibit viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals. SUMMARY:Gifts of the Garden: Engaging with the Experts
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Massabesic Center to meet the team who are outstanding in their fields and know all the dirt. No need to herb your enthusiasm! Bring your pressing questions about plants\, find your inner peas\, discover inspiration for laying down roots at home\, or just dig the blooms! \nOur volunteer team of UNH Extension Master Gardeners like to have fun and teach others about what it takes to create and maintain the luscious\, wildlife-friendly gardens on the grounds. These informal meet and greet events are the perfect way to learn about getting involved in volunteer gardening opportunities with NH Audubon\, and about ways you can duplicate our gardens in your own backyard\, whether you have an acre or a patio pot. \nThe beautiful gardens on site include pollinator and bird-friendly plants\, a rain garden space\, vegetable gardens\, raised beds\, and more. As an ongoing partnership between New Hampshire Audubon and University of New Hampshire Extension’s Master Gardener Program\, Massabesic’s Demonstration Gardens provide a place for sharing best practices in eco-friendly home and community gardening\, which enhance human health and well-being and wildlife habitat. \nDress for walking in short grass on flat but uneven terrain. Sunscreen and personal insect repellant are recommended. Building hours (and bathroom access) are 11am to 5pm\, but come early before the heat of the day chases the gardeners away. Visit the gift shop and meet our animal ambassadors after you spend your morning exploring the gardens. Consider packing a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic tables surrounding the gardens. Children are welcomed and encouraged! \nGardeners will not be on site during inclement weather\, but visitors are still welcomed. \nThis event is free to attend. SUMMARY:Brockway Wee Explorers: Leaves\, Wonderful Leaves
DESCRIPTION:What’s happening to the green leaves? For this program\, we will be looking at what happens to the leaves on the trees as autumn begins in New England. \nPrograms will begin at 10 a.m. and last about 45 minutes each. \nThis is an outdoor location with no bathroom facilities. Please dress children for the weather and be ready to walk on the trail\, sit on logs and the ground\, and dig in the dirt! Please also review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering. \nPrograms will be cancelled if poor weather is predicted during the program time; participants will be notified by phone of cancellations. \nTo find the meeting circle\, park at the Brockway Nature Preserve parking area along Farrington Corners Road in Hopkinton\, then follow the entrance trail across the bridge to the circle. For detailed directions\, search for Brockway Pond on Google Maps\, or visit here. \nThis program is free\, with a suggested donation of $5.
