SUMMARY:NH Butterfly Monitoring Trainings - June 3
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we continue to explore NH’s Butterflies through field trainings. \nNew Hampshire Audubon is partnering with New Hampshire Fish and Game (NHFG) to collect long-term data on butterflies in the Concord region and beyond. Sightings will provide valuable data on how species ranges are changing over time. Your data will help support butterfly conservation across the state. \nNHFG and partners will go in the field to learn more about the butterflies that call New Hampshire home. Our series of online training sessions wrapped up and now we will spend time in the field learning how to identify the butterflies in a diversity of habitats. All are welcome for this amazing opportunity to learn and participate in butterfly conservation. Field training sessions in and around Concord are scheduled for the following dates: \nJune 3 from 10am – 12pm \nJoin Heidi Holman\, biologist for NH Fish and Game and leader of the Butterfly Monitoring Network. Heidi will lead us through a training in anticipation of the first July Butterfly Survey in Concord\, NH. \nDuring the field trainings you will receive additional information about the Butterfly Surveys that will take place at 6 locations across the state. The field sessions will provide you with an eye-opening experience to connect with species you may not have noticed in the past. No matter what your skill level is\, you are welcome to join us. Together we can help track New Hampshire’s butterflies and make a difference in their conservation. \nField training sessions in and around Concord are scheduled for the following dates: May 18\, June 3\, and June 15. A lifelong lover of nature\, she has shown this love through her work as a landscape architect and through her photography. She studied botany at UNH and landscape architecture at UCLA and is licensed in both CA and NH. SUMMARY:The People and the Peregrines Behind the Incredible Ongoing Recovery of Falcons in NH with Chris Martin
DESCRIPTION:Decades of restoration efforts now make it possible trace generations of Peregrines from successful nest sites across the state. Sightings of banded falcons reveal their NH lineages as populations increase. The Manchester falcon nest site that we can see in NH Audubon’s nest cam has produced 70 chicks so far and over half of them have been spotted elsewhere as adults. Hear stories of individual falcons and individual people who monitor them. Through photos\, join Chris on a climb to band chicks – how does he get into the ledges and crevasses to measure and document them year after year? \n“It’s the unsolved mysteries that are important to me now\,” says Chris. “I’m getting multiple sightings of a color banded falcon spotted in Hampton who is the grandson of a Manchester bird via the Newburyport\, Plum Island bridge. Where is he now? Did he move on from Hampton? Is he part of a new breeding pair somewhere\, continuing his lineage?” \nChris Martin has been a raptor biologist for NH Audubon for more than three decades. His work focuses on recovery of the state’s endangered and threatened raptors in close collaboration with NH Fish & Game. He recruits\, trains\, and supervises an enthusiastic group of NH Audubon volunteer field observers who monitor these species across the state. \nThis presentation is available in a hybrid format.  Join us in-person at the Massabesic Center in Auburn\, or virtually via Zoom! DESCRIPTION:Join local photography expert\, Tracy Brunner\, at the Massabesic Center on a 6-week journey to learn about photographing nature! Topics covered include how to plan for shots\, ethics of nature photography\, how to make interesting landscapes\, wildlife photography\, macro techniques\, and more. The class will wrap up with a photo share and critique to see what you’ve learned throughout the 6 weeks. DESCRIPTION:Location: Rye Harbor\, NH\nMonday\, May 29\, 8 am – 5 pm\nCost: $80 Member / $100 Non-Member \nJoin NH Audubon aboard MV Granite State as we explore Jeffreys Ledge\, 20 miles off the New Hampshire coast. We’ll spend all day at sea\, searching for pelagic seabirds\, whales\, dolphins\, and anything else that happens to cross our course. Once you register\, you will receive confirmation and further information. Participants need to meet at Rye Harbor at 7:30am for check-in and 8am departure. Minimum of 30 participants. While there are readily available alternatives\, lead (Pb) is still used in hunting ammunition and in fishing tackle. This creates significant ongoing threats to wildlife\, both from current use and the legacy of old ammo and fishing tackle left in lakes\, streams\, and forests. SUMMARY:A Garden Story Photography Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Kate Osgood’s photography documents A Garden Story – The pollinator garden at the McLane Center\, taking us through the life cycle of the garden\, from buds to birds and all of the changes\, and visitors\, in between. \nThere will be an artists reception on April 11\, from 4-6pm. \nA volunteer at the McLane pollinator garden\, Kate loves to document its beauty and changes through her photography. A lifelong lover of nature\, she has shown this love through her work as a landscape architect and through her photography. She studied botany at UNH and landscape architecture at UCLA and is licensed in both CA and NH. To help support environmental protection and the NH Audubon mission\, thirteen talented artists will be exhibiting over 30 original pieces in various mediums including oils\, watercolors\, acrylics\, pastel\, mixed media\, pen and ink\, pencil\, and photography. \nThe Manchester Artists Association (MAA) was formed in 1966 to provide fellowship\, learning and inspiration to artists who are engaged or interested in the pursuit of fine art. \nLove Our Planet has been extended and will now be on view at the Massabesic Center from Wednesday\, March 1\, 2023 through Thursday\, June 1. SUMMARY:BBW Strafford County Farm
DESCRIPTION:With habitat for water birds\, raptors and song birds\, this walk will include the Don Black Trail and the hedgerows around the fields of the conserved property. The walk will last as long as participants choose\, but not beyond noon. Contact: Dan Hubbard at danielhubbard@peoplepc.com or 603-978-0218. \nThis field trip will be limited to 20 participants. Visit the Seacoast Chapter website for event details and to sign up. \nMeet at 7am across from the Stafford County Work Program at 266 County Farm Road. Follow County Farm Road and take a left at the stop sign and then an immediate left to continue along behind the jail to the parking lot across from the entrance to the Strafford County Work Program. \nBeginner Bird Walks (BBW)  \nThe NH Audubon Seacoast Chapter will have five Beginner Bird Walks (BBW) this spring\, 2023. Although these walks are geared with the beginner birder in mind\, birders of all levels of expertise are encouraged to participate and share their experiences. Children are gladly welcome with an adult. Participants should be fully vaccinated and are encouraged to bring binoculars\, water\, insect repellent\, and sunscreen. \n
