DESCRIPTION:Kate Osgood’s photography documents A Garden Story – The pollinator garden at the McLane Center\, taking us through the life cycle of the garden\, from buds to birds and all of the changes\, and visitors\, in between. \nThere will be an artists reception on April 11\, from 4-6pm. \nA volunteer at the McLane pollinator garden\, Kate loves to document its beauty and changes through her photography. A lifelong lover of nature\, she has shown this love through her work as a landscape architect and through her photography. She studied botany at UNH and landscape architecture at UCLA and is licensed in both CA and NH. DESCRIPTION:UNH Extension Master Gardeners will be working in the soil to maintain our luscious gardens which include pollinator and bird-friendly plants\, a rain garden space\, vegetable gardens\, raised beds\, and more. Ask all of your pressing questions about your plants at home\, or find out how to get involved in gardening with NH Audubon and UNH Extension. \nAs an on-going partnership between New Hampshire Audubon and University of New Hampshire Extension’s Master Gardener Program\, the Demonstration Gardens provide a place for sharing best practices in eco-friendly home and community gardening\, which enhance human health and well-being and wildlife habitat.  \nDress for walking in the grass on flat but uneven terrain. Protect yourself against insects and the sun with long pants\, sleeves\, sunscreen\, and insect repellant. Gardeners will not be on site during inclement weather. \nBuilding hours are 11am to 5pm on Thursdays\, so plan accordingly. Visit the bathrooms\, gift shop\, and meet our animal ambassadors after you explore the gardens. SUMMARY:Professional Development - Back to School Gardening\, Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Join Richard Hodges from ReTreeUs for the last of a two-part workshop to discover a novel way to grow schoolyard gardens. In these workshops\, we’ll talk about sheet mulching techniques\, succession planting\, and building organic matter with an easy-to-do method. You’ll also learn the basic considerations and steps for planning and starting a schoolyard vegetable garden. UNH-Extension Master Gardeners will be on site to talk specifics about pollinator gardens\, as well. \nIn this session\, we will harvest the crops that were planted in the “Back to School Garden” that we established in the spring session. We’ll transplant lettuce\, spinach and kale seedlings for the fall. We will install row cover\, with mini hoops\, to extend the growing season and we’ll discuss various approaches to fall gardens. \nAfter the workshop\, we’ll see these methods and more in action while touring the successful Teaching and Demonstration Garden\, which is maintained through a partnership between NH Audubon and UNH-Extension\, and provides the public with research-based\, sustainable gardening information and skills that benefit our environment for wildlife and for people. \nThis program will take place outdoors rain or shine. In the event of severe thunderstorms\, we will postpone.  Dress for a short walk in grassy uneven terrain\, with the intention to get hands-on with soil and plants. Please bring gloves; we will have some available on site if you need to borrow a pair. \nCost: $10 for NH Audubon members $15 for non-members (Join or renew your membership today!
