SUMMARY:Black Birders Week 2026 Tour with Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire
DESCRIPTION:NH Audubon and the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire are partnering for an outing around Portsmouth on Saturday\, May 30 from 9-11:30 am. This year’s Black Birders Week theme is “Flyways & Freedom: Advocacy\, Action\, and the Future.” We will be traveling over mostly easy terrain\, including pavement\, mown grass\, and asphalt. Co-led by BHTNH’s Nur Shoop and NH Audubon’s Education Director Lauren Betz\, we will stroll through the gardens at the Governor John Langdon House\, where we may see sparrows\, finches\, corvids\, blackbirds and more. The group will move towards the water\, finding catbirds and cliff swallows along streets\, and gulls and terns over the water. Along the way we will stop at multiple points to discuss important historically significant locations such as the site of the former Pomp and Candace Spring home and business\, pictured here. \n \nWe recommend wearing sturdy walking shoes and bringing sunblock\, a hat\, and a water. This event takes place mostly on paved sidewalks\, but one area does travel over a grass lawn. There are no steep inclines or obstacles to work around\, but if using mobility devices one might have to go around one of the stops. In the event of severe weather\, the event will be cancelled. Contact Anita Fernandez with any questions about the event. \nBy attending this event\, you and anyone you register on behalf of agree to NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver. \nAll proceeds from ticket sales will benefit BHTNH.
