SUMMARY:Pondicherry Migratory Bird Day Walk One
DESCRIPTION:The 23rd Annual Pondicherry Migratory Bird Day is Saturday\, 10 May 2025. Two consecutive walks are free and open to the public. The first event\, which starts at 6 am and ends at 8 am\, meets at the overlook at Airport Marsh on Airport Road in Whitefield\, NH. Airport Marsh has a mix of water\, wetland\, shrub\, and grassland habitats. Over the past several years\, 183 species have been recorded at Airport Marsh\, although we will be happy with 40 species. \nThe second event starts at the Pondicherry Trailhead at 289 Airport Road in Whitefield\, NH\, at 8 am. We will walk the rail trail to Cherry Pond\, a distance of 1.5 miles. We will look and listen for various warblers and other species. From the Tudor Richard Observation Platform at Cherry Pond\, guides will lead walks to Little Cherry Pond\, searching for black-backed woodpeckers and migrating warblers. We will also visit Moorhen Marsh for wetland species\, including marsh wrens and swamp sparrows. We have several expert volunteer guides to help us find and identify species. \nWe generally finish around 2 pm\, although birders can stay longer or leave earlier. The total walking distance for the Cherry and Little Cherry Ponds walk is around 5 miles with an elevation change of only 20 feet. Bring binoculars\, lunch\, water\, and dress for the weather. We may encounter a few black flies. This particular date is often the birdiest weekend of the migration season. The event is free and is sponsored by the Ammonoosuc Chapter of NH Audubon\, Friends of Pondicherry\, and the Silvio Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge. \nThe World Migratory Bird Day 2025 theme is “Shared Spaces – Creating Bird-Friendly Communities.” Free educational posters featuring this theme will be available. \nFriends of Pondicherry website. \nIf you have any questions\, contact the organizer\, David Govatski. \nCover photo by Phil Brown.

SUMMARY:BBW: Wiggin Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Juli Tyson for a walk (co-sponsored by the Newmarket Conservation Commission) at Wiggin Farm in Newmarket to celebrate the first TurtleFest. Juli will highlight this beautiful piece of Newmarket conservation land on Grant Road that includes wetland\, field\, forest\, and river habitat. You’ll observe bird species just arriving for spring migration – a very exciting time of year to be out birding! This spot is not highlighted on eBird\, so this walk will present a unique opportunity to get Wiggin Farm on the birding map. After the walk\, catch up with Juli and others from the Newmarket Conservation Commission at TURTLEFEST25. Registration is not required. \n  \n(The NH Audubon Seacoast Chapter will have eight Beginner Bird Walks (BBW) this spring. Although these walks are geared with the beginner birder in mind\, birders of all levels of expertise are encouraged to participate and share their experiences. Children are gladly welcome with an adult. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars\, water\, insect repellent\, and sunscreen.)

DESCRIPTION:This event is cancelled due to inclement weather. See the calendar for alternative\, upcoming bird outings to join. \nCelebrate World Migratory Bird Day with NH Audubon! This walk will be led by local birder and Massabesic Center Advisory Committee member\, Joe Mahoney\, and will focus on our early migratory arrivals. We will cross through mostly wooded and wetland habitats and we can expect to see a variety of waterfowl and wetland species. We will meet at the Dorrs Pond parking lot and travel the trail around the pond. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. Please dress for the weather\, with sturdy shoes. Expect to walk between 1-2 miles over mostly flat\, but uneven trails through grassy and wooded terrain. Trails may be soggy\, snowy\, or icy. Dogs are not allowed on this walk. \nPlease review NH Audubon’s Outdoor Education Program Liability Release & Agreement Waiver before registering.

We’ll be looking for migratory species in Manchester such as the Black-and-white Warbler\, the Common Yellowthroat\, and the Baltimore Oriole. \nThis is a free event with binocular rentals available. We will meet in the parking lot off of Countryside Boulevard. Expect to walk 1-2 miles with some hills and spots with uneven footing. DESCRIPTION:Visit the McLane Center May 7-June 27 to see Kate Osgood’s McLane Center Pollinator Garden in Pictures Exhibit. \n“The pollinator garden at McLane Center is an ever-evolving mosaic of flora and fauna. As a volunteer\, working in the gardens has afforded me the wonderful experience of getting to know the plants and the critters that coexist. My photography attempts to highlight these interactions and to share with human visitors the beauty and the importance of the gardens.” \n  \nBio: Kate Osgood is a landscape architect and nature photographer. Originally from Exeter\, she lived and worked out west for many years before returning to the area. Her work and photography is rooted in natural systems and a deep love of nature.  \n“The protection and enhancement of natural systems and wildlife ecology is the driving force behind my designs and photography. I believe that the more people experience the beauty of nature\, the more likely they are to become invested in its protection and thus foster stewardship for future generations.” \n  \nArt exhibit viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals. SUMMARY:Creative Nature Ventures Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit highlights the nature-inspired work of a group of local artists\, led by Bill Turner\, that meets once a week at Creative Ventures\, located in Milford\, NH. During these sessions\, typically 8-10 artists bring their work (either an in-progress or a completed work). Each piece is displayed before the group and generates a friendly discussion centered on suggestions that help lead to a more exciting work of art. The main focus of the work is realism\, however\, abstract artists also benefit from the feedback process. Recently\, there has been a nature focus within the group\, including many paintings of bird species\, in particular. Collaborating with NH Audubon to display these pieces is a natural connection. We look forward to generating interest and excitement for our works with other art-\, bird-\, and nature- enthusiasts. \n \nThe exhibit will be on display in the Massabesic Center’s large function room during regular operating hours. Viewing access may be restricted during private event rentals and education programs. Calling ahead to confirm is recommended.
