SUMMARY:Native New Hampshire Birds Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“Native New Hampshire Birds” Exhibit: September 12-November 2 \nArtist Shannon Bender has enjoyed creating from a young age. The journey for this series started last year. She wanted to create a theme that Upper Valley residents could relate to. Being in an area with so many that take part in bird watching with a variation of birds\, she thought\, “What a joy for people to see some of the many species that we have here in a painting series.” \nIn addition\, the exhibition displays the different characteristics of each bird. Each original piece takes anywhere between 17-65 hours of strategic feather painting and many layers of acrylic which bring the painting to its final resting state. \n(Collage of paintings from the exhibit\, by Shannon Bender.)\nBio: Shannon is an alumnus of Canaan Elementary School and Mascoma HighSchool. She studied Fine Arts at Lassell College in Massachusetts for a time. \nIn the Mascoma District\, she worked as a Special Paraeducator for 10 years. She is now a certified Special Paraeducator at the Hanover Street School in Lebanon\, New Hampshire. \nShe is a local artist\, residing in Enfield\, NH. Her favorite mediums are pencil\, acrylic\, and tempera paints.

SUMMARY:A Forum for Safe Rodent Control in New England
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, shocking numbers of raptors\, foxes\, coyotes\, and other predators have been sickened or killed after preying on rodents poisoned with rodenticides. Public and private property owners and managers need to use a non-poison\, integrated pest management approach to rodent control and protect New Hampshire’s native predators. \nNH Audubon\, Mass Audubon\, and Audubon Society of Rhode Island are actively advocating to reduce the use of these poisons and encourage municipalities to adopt a non-poison\, Integrated Pest Management approach to rodent control. \nHear the successes and challenges of these methods from New England’s leading poison-free pest control professionals. Learn about their proven\, wildlife-safe pest control approaches and use this knowledge to advocate for an end to the use of rodent poisons in your community. Sign up for the webinar here.

SUMMARY:Birding Colombia's Valle del Cauca
DESCRIPTION:Colombia is known for having the greatest bird diversity in the world (1\,908 species) and the Cauca Valley has recorded 1\,000 of those species in an area that constitutes only 2% of the land area of the country. Join Katie Towler and Jim Sparrell as they present stories and photos from their trip in August of 2023 with Colombia Birdwatch\, a local company that has a strong commitment to building the young birding/guiding community in the region. In a 12-day trip\, they encountered hundreds of birds\, mammals\, plants\, and insects and met many local families who invited them into their homes to share their birds and home-cooked meals. \nBio: Jim Sparrell and Katie Towler are recreational birders who have lived in the seacoast area for 33 years. They have served as the winter season editors for New Hampshire Bird Records for NH Audubon. Jim has worked as a psychologist for over 40 years and Katie is a writer who has published 3 novels and a memoir. In addition to Colombia\, they have birded internationally in Costa Rica\, Vietnam\, and Europe. \nAll of the in-person programs start at 7:30pm\, with 7pm refreshments. For more information see the chapter website.
