SUMMARY:Brockway Wee Explorers: Senses in Nature
DESCRIPTION:The Brockway Wee Explorers Program is back! Join New Hampshire Audubon at the John Brockway Nature Preserve in Hopkinton to explore nature with your 3-5 year old. For the first program of our fall series\, we will be seeing how we use our senses of sight\, sound\, touch\, and smell to explore our natural world. The program will begin at 10am and last about 45 minutes. \nThis is an outdoor location with no bathroom facilities. Please dress children for the weather and be ready to walk on the trail\, sit on logs and the ground\, and dig in the dirt! \nPrograms will be cancelled if poor weather is predicted during the program time; participants will be notified by email of cancellations. \nFor detailed directions to the preserve\, search for Brockway Pond on Google Maps or visit this webpage. \nThis program is free\, with a suggested donation of $5 which can be made with cash in person or by visiting our donation page. Thanks to an endowment from Dorothy Brockway Osborne\, this program is free for Hopkinton Residents.

SUMMARY:Native New Hampshire Birds Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“Native New Hampshire Birds” Exhibit: September 12-November 2 \nArtist Shannon Bender has enjoyed creating from a young age. The journey for this series started last year. She wanted to create a theme that Upper Valley residents could relate to. Being in an area with so many that take part in bird watching with a variation of birds\, she thought\, “What a joy for people to see some of the many species that we have here in a painting series.” \nIn addition\, the exhibition displays the different characteristics of each bird. Each original piece takes anywhere between 17-65 hours of strategic feather painting and many layers of acrylic which bring the painting to its final resting state. \n(Collage of paintings from the exhibit\, by Shannon Bender.)\nBio: Shannon is an alumnus of Canaan Elementary School and Mascoma HighSchool. She studied Fine Arts at Lassell College in Massachusetts for a time. \nIn the Mascoma District\, she worked as a Special Paraeducator for 10 years. She is now a certified Special Paraeducator at the Hanover Street School in Lebanon\, New Hampshire. \nShe is a local artist\, residing in Enfield\, NH. Her favorite mediums are pencil\, acrylic\, and tempera paints.
