Every Drop Counts: Navigating Water Rights and Use for a Sustainable Future – Newfound Nature Series – August 5

August 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm

August 5, 2025. (Rescheduled from July 22, 2025.)

Every Drop Counts: Navigating Water Rights and Use for a Sustainable Future

Sheryl Horton (NH Audubon)

How does the way we allocate and use water across regions influence our communities, ecosystems, and future resilience? Across the United States, the way water is managed varies dramatically—from arid regions grappling with scarcity to states abundant in freshwater resources. This presentation explores the far-reaching consequences of these regional differences: how they affect agriculture, urban development, ecosystems, and social equity. We’ll examine the legacy of U.S. water rights laws, the pressures of climate change, and what’s at stake as population growth and consumer behavior intensify demand. Ultimately, we’ll consider the role each of us can play in shaping a more sustainable water future through informed choices and conservation.

Held on Tuesdays, 7:00–8:15 pm
Join us for our Newfound Nature Series (the new name for our beloved Red Barn Speaker Series) on Tuesday evenings. The series is now held at Grey Rocks and co-hosted by the Newfound Lake Region Association (NLRA). Registration is not necessary – just come and join us for an evening’s entertainment!
